Some Pottery for Sale

Image
I am integrating my racial justice activism with my craft (pottery) now = craftivism  ( about my craftivism ... some finished work here ). All proceeds from sales of my pottery (and pottery classes) will be donated during the Pandemic to mutual aid groups in the Boston area, and other organizations helping folks who are struggling with food insecurity and more, due to the Pandemic. Video of throwing demos and explaining compassion/donations. I am working on adding more pieces and prices to this blog (I removed many sold things...or things at Five Crows ...as of Dec. 2021, and 8/16/22) For now, assume price range of $15-40 each if not otherwise noted.   Things that are pictured together do not need to be sold as a set unless that is noted; the numbers are just noted for communication purposes.   All are food safe and dishwasher safe. And lovingly hand-crafted. Copper Hinged Container (#7) Tree Cup Lid on Individual Pitcher (#8) " I love you " in morse code...planter/berry/garl

Reminder Stones

Image
These are great for gifting or keeping to remind yourself/others of someone or something you care about. You can write a message on the back, if you want. Reminder Stones are smooth and can be carried in a pocket or set in a convenient spot. A very popular item.  All proceeds go to folks who are food insecure or struggling due to the pandemic. $3-5 each; you chose how much you want to contribute.  (at Five Crows $6) thank you for Activism, Equality and Equity Om (for centering, mindfulness, meditation...self-care) miscellaneous letters, designs, spirals (these are now being sold by Uni-T in Natick) This is a fundraiser, so you can decide how generous you will be in the price ranges I posted. I can take payment with Venmo (SJoyD), PayPal ( paypal.me/dagworks , pick "friends and family" not "service" please!), cash or check. (I would prefer to not have to mail these, so let's talk about options, especially if you know me. You could pick up from my studio in Ash

Video (throwing demo & about Compassion Pottery)

Image
The Ashland Dragonfly Festival is going virtual this year. I was asked if I was willing to have a video made of me working in my studio for this virtual event. With hubby Phil's great assistance, we made this video and included some students who had class during the time we did the video shooting (Olga, Eri, Elaine and Mia). This is the final product after many hours of cutting and editing (this link).  The video is less than 7 minutes.  I show throwing, trimming, carving, and some finished work of mine and the students in the video. I also explain about my Compassion Pottery fundraising.  Enjoy!

Compassion Pottery Fundraiser

Image
I am a potter and I teach pottery as many of you know. I was out of work for a while but I am getting back to taking students into my pottery studio gradually and safely. Since the end of March, 2020, I have been doing what I can to raise funds to share with folks who are food insecure , and housing insecure...first by sewing homemade masks and now I am making bowls+ to continue to raise funds for those more negatively effected by the C-19 pandemic and being out of work . I am redistributing all of my proceeds/income as I go back to teaching pottery and doing Spark Joy home organizing work with clients in their homes .  Video (throwing demo & about Compassion Pottery) If you would like to help folks with need AND get a pottery gift from me, below are some things I made for this purpose.  When you use/hold them,  you can be reminded that you have compassion for others  that don't have the food and resources that you do. Below are individual-serving-size bowls  that I threw (on

Studio Together Available Again!

Image
It appears that I am allowed to open my Studio Together business now in Phase 2: my pottery business is considered as "personal services that don’t involve close personal contact." Let's use these procedures for now: Classes only one-on-one, or your-family-members-and-me only for now. Reschedule classes (with as much notice as possible) if you experience C-19 symptoms (headache, fever, coughing). We have a Oransi mod HEPA Air Purifier in use when the windows can't be open...or there is good airflow with fans, open windows, and/or AC.  We all hand wash (or use hand sanitizer if only option) directly before seeing each other, and frequently while together. ( I will provide hand sanitizer for use on entering the back garage door .) We all wear a face mask unless very separated in the studio.  No physical contact; including hugging (sadly). If this works for you, please contact me to make your first appointment.  Please tell me you have read this and you can accommodate

Pottery Time Apart

Image
I have come to the conclusion it isn't safe to have classes due to the COVID-19 disease outbreak. It isn't worth the risk of any of us getting really sick or worse, or spreading it. I can still continue to help you create pottery from a distance. I want you to have some fun and get into The Zone  (no distractions) while creating, during this confusing and separate time. There is no pressure to do this. I hope you are doing something healing for yourself. If you want, arrange for a pick up of clay and tools! You can pay for the clay, and borrow needed tools like you check out books from the library. You can do hand building at home then return your finished work for firing later, paying for firing fees instead of paying for a class.  Estimate for firing fees: $2 for a piece the size of a fist. Tell me how much clay you want, the tools you would like to borrow ( see images below ), "sign" the borrow agreement  ( see below ), and arrange for a pick up time.
